Lawn Fungi

September 4, 2011

I have never seen so many varieties of mushrooms on my property at the same time, so I took some photos.  Clicking the collage will take you to individual pictures at Flickr.

Tamdoll mushrooms

Their textures were really fascinating, I’m sure they can be an inspiration for some future art project.  What do you make of them?

  1. I love to eat mushrooms! I've never seen pink mushrooms before. Are they edible?

  3. I have no idea if they're edible. I have a "surviving in the woods" book around here somewhere - I guess if I had to I could examine the heck out of them to figure it out, but I'd be scared to attempt it.

  4. You have red mushrooms! I've never actually seen red mushrooms in real life. Only in pictures with little gnomes standing by them ;)

  5. I had to giggle at "Zakka Life" - because when I saw my first red mushroom with white spots on it I had to pinch myself! It is always a thrill to find them to this day!

What an amazing collection of fungi - and all in your yard! Is this something occurring in your part of the country due to weather conditions or are you just the lucky one?

  6. Zakka Life & Pam - I never saw them in real life either! Over at flickr I labeled the red capped one "Smurfalicious" because I never thought they were real.

It must be all the rain, even driving around today I noticed tons of mushrooms everywhere. I'm going to go out again tomorrow and see if there's something more unique & see if it inspires some creativity!
