Blog Carnival – Horror Movies

October 22, 2010

I was thinking about an Artful Thursday project this week… didn’t get to it.  I’ve been working on adding a “Shop by Category” feature to the EtsyChai blog and expect to get that done soon.  Been cooking and baking a lot.  Eating a lot, too.  Halloween crafts have been brewing in my head for a while but nothing really is coming out great – so I’m going to give up for this year.  So… it’s a good thing I have the EtsyBloggers group to keep me on task with a blog post!

Tamdoll's Workspace

Blog Carnival for 10/22 hosted by Mystic Wynd (the entire Carnival with everyone’s answers will appear next week).

1. Halloween is just around the corner. What is the best Halloween costume you've ever worn or designed for someone else to wear? What made it so special?
2. Tell us about your top 3 favorite horror movies. What is it about them that scares you?Mystic Wynd

Well #1 is a bust for me.  As crafty as I am – I refused to make costumes for my kids when they were little.  For all the time it would take me to create something, compared to the fleeting time they’d be wearing it [under a coat, dragged through grass], I never wanted to make the investment of effort.  Well, maybe there was a cape or two over the years – but those were super-quick.

So, for #2… I LOVE horror movies.  My favorite type are the not-real ones.  Like Hellraiser.  It scares me with shock, not real fear, is gory, and I’m pretty sure things like that just can’t happen.  No thank-you to films of chainsaw massacres, teens in cabins alone for a summer, or cannibalistic doctors.

Then there are the stories that are scary and make me think, like Frailty.  Let me tell you, I wanted to turn it off right after the beginning, but it was worth sitting through.

Lastly, I like post-apocalyptic stories, and most recently, 28 Days Later.  It’s not the zombies so much that I love, but seeing how people survive after a disaster.

Do you like horror movies?  Have any favorites to recommend?

As much as I don’t like to watch television, there’s nothing like a film, sans commercials, to get a knitting project finished.

  1. In Singapore, we don't have Halloween but we have a Chinese equivalent - Hungry Ghosts Festival. This festival is celebrated by superstitious business ppl who believe they need to literally feed the hungry ghosts in order to continue to enjoy good biz. Lots of feasts, outdoor performances of singing, dancing and burning of incense and paper goods to pacify the ghosts.
I avoid watching any horror or sadistic movies because I will get nightmares. I don't know how you do it!

  2. Well I don't particularly like blood & gore movies, but the kind with lots of surprizes aren't so bad... ^-^

I am so glad you stopped by my blog and left a comment! My very best friend is Jewish and now I can point her to a nice place to shop!
