Holidays this Month

November 20, 2009
November is full of holidays: image
and these are just some of the more light-hearted ones I came across, there were tons more when I searched online for “November holidays”.
Etsy Bloggers Team question of the week: Most countries around the world have a day set aside to give thanks for a bountiful harvest. Here in the US, it's Thanksgiving. What do you celebrate wherever you live and how do you celebrate?
I have a different answer for this every year.  It’s been many years since I’ve celebrated with family since this always seems to be a crazy weekend for traveling.  Most Thanksgivings are celebrated with the four of us, neighbors or close friends here at home.
cornucopia Frankly, I’d rather visit with distant family when there aren’t holidays to think about preparing special foods or gifts for.  No matter what, those things always add an element of stress for me.  But, since holidays are when the kids have vacation from school, it’s usually unavoidable.

Well, there’s one thing, that no matter where we are, or who we’re with on Thanksgiving that is always the same.  I make Sweet Potato Streusel Squares.  They’re fattening.  Decadent.  Oh, so good.  The recipe is from Bon App├ętit Magazine, 1995 and that’s a link to it on epicurious.com.

Not surprised to hear my holiday memories revolve around food, are you?  I would love to hear if you have favorite recipes, too, or if you try this one.  One of these days I’m going to have to make a non-dairy version so I can enjoy it just a little bit more.

  1. This year will be different for me, as I have no family to celebrate the holidays with. It's sad, but somehow, I WILL make the best of it.

  2. Oh, Sophia, I hope there's people you can still share holidays with. Neighbors or friends or others who may be alone.

  3. I really enjoy holiday with love ones. Making comfort food and gifts together are so much fun! Hope your having a wonderful weekend and love to you!

  4. Sounds delicious! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  5. Wow. So many holidays, so little time...And who knew there was a holiday just for Peanut Butter Lovers?! Yay!

  6. Oh you are so devious, giving us that recipe! I agree with you about holidays. My family in town and my family a few hours away have been getting together in August for a few years--just family fun time. Everyone comes to my house and we eat, talk, and play games.

  7. Thanks for the link to the sweet potato streusel. I'm going to have to try that.
    Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

  8. Cookie Monster's birthday?! How could I have missed THAT one? :D

    Have a happy holiday!

  9. Yes, my evil plan to plump up all the EtsyBloggers is working! More tempting recipes to come in the future.... mwah ha ha ha ha.

And to all the people who have chosen to get email replies to this post, thanks for your patience with these silly comments while the stress of the holiday gets to me a little.....

  10. Happy Thanksgiving! I had no idea it was Cookie Monster's birthday!! How cool. :)
